Big Moves from the Citadel: Expanding into Ada Slaight Hall
Some exciting news from one of Toronto’s favourite dance hubs: Citadel + Compagnie is expanding into a second venue for its 2025/2026 season. While its cozy home base at The Citadel: Ross Centre for Dance isn’t going anywhere, the company will now also present select performances at the larger Ada Slaight Hall inside Daniels Spectrum.
Just a short walk from the Citadel’s Parliament Street space, the 300-seat Ada Slaight Hall offers the company a chance to scale up—hosting bigger audiences and more ambitious works, while still staying rooted in the city’s east end.
Some of the highlights from the upcoming season are:
- Sex Dalmatian’s Hot Holiday Spectacular, a co-production with Rock Bottom Movement (December 17–21, 2025). We all love Alyssa Martin, and a holiday show from her, with this cast, is bound to be an absolute blast. A perfect fit for the season, and a must-see in my books.
- Amour, acide et noix by Montreal choreographer Daniel Léveillé is an intimate work that exposes the body in its most vulnerable state. Performed entirely nude, this piece engages directly with themes of vulnerability and exposure—a bold and thoughtful addition to the season.
- Microphone Controller by Lukas Malkowski is another work I’m excited to see in full. I caught a short excerpt a couple of years ago, and it’s stayed with me. The piece unfolds like a rock concert, weaving together Sign Language and dance to tell the story of the rockstar Microphone Controller. In this solo, Malkowski explores accessibility and his identity as a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), offering a layered and personal performance.
Congratulations to Citadel + Compagnie on this major expansion—it couldn’t be more deserved.
